Equal vs. Equitable

Some weeks ago, a great man said, "We can never be equal, but we can be equitable." Equality and equitability -- two ways of portraying the same story?

Effort?
A person who put in more effort to build up the shared wealth, may feel that he is deserving of a greater portion. "You who sat idly while I laboured, deserve less of the same pie." The problem is, this formula is justified at the time the spoils are first divided. Thereafter, the spoils should be divided according to the input of the various actors. If he who initially put in more effort, fails to continue to put in more effort, he then loses the basis for a continuing enlarged slice of the cake.

Needs?
The ADR approach suggests that win-win solutions can be reached when needs are met, instead of focussing on rights and liabilities. This suggests that a true divulgence of needs and concerns must be put forth with full and frank disclosure. Yet, at the negotiation table, who would be foolhardy enough to disclose their Achilles heel? Indeed runarounds and red herrings are more common than simple sharing in confidence.

=============================================

This leads me to conclude
That a person must be rude
To speak up to "The Boss"
Or be as meek as moss.

If you speak not -- you lose
by the silence that you choose.
Or speak up and be counted
And thereafter be hounded.

Such is the face of things
Our custodians fainly sing.
So shall we strike a deal
And hope our ties shall heal?

The word "reka" means "to create".
"Rekacipta" means "invention".
As our ardent fires abate
We may declare our intention.

To create new identity;
To create new felicity.
To free all those enthralled
By the past that must appall.

Mereka,
Mereka,
Mereka!
