New Year is in God's Hands

Christmas has just left. Happy New Year!!

When you wish someone "Happy New Year"...

We always wish our friends and relatives, "Happy New Year!" simply because it's the end of the year. What are some of the reasons that we say, "Happy New Year"? Here are three possibilities. . .

First, you are happy that it's the new year. Hence, "happy" new year. "I'm happy that it's the new year," you tell your friend, "and so you should be."

Second, you may hope that the new year is happy. Hence, "happy" new year. "I hope that the new year will be a happy one for you," you are saying, "and here's hoping that everything will go smooth!"

Third, you might imagine that it's a seasonal greeting, and you say it because it's the "appropriate" thing to say. Hence, "happy" new year. "It's a public holiday, and I'm so happy to see you," you are saying, "so let's just shout happy new year together and drink a toast to that!"

But wait, there might be a fourth possibility . . .

Fourth, you know that happiness depends on yourself, and so you say "happy new year" to remind yourself and that friend or relative of yours, that no matter what happens, you should strive to make the best of things. Hence, "happy" new year. "Happiness depends on you and I," you are saying, "and so let's make this coming year a happy one, come rain or shine!"

I like the fourth one most of all. It means that your life is in control. It means that you have made a conscious decision to be positive.

But you know, you're human, and humans are known to be imperfect.

God, on the other hand, has a sterling reputation for being perfect. Even when you don't think He's looking his best. Because God has a plan for each and every one of us.

Into His hands, we commit the new year!

There's no better way to distract yourself (especially when you're hard at work, at the end of the year) than to keep on worrying about inconsequential things. Things that won't matter in 20 years time. Things that are only a blip on the fabric of time.

You can be Mr Meticulous, and worry about every detail. And you might get praised for it, too. Bosses like to have a Mr Meticulous on every team, at least one, so that if someone misses the finer details, there's someone to catch it -- like a safety net.

But when you're Mr Meticulous (like me), you find that it extends to every area of your life. Every area, no kidding. Personal life, extracurricular activities, et cetera, et cetera. It gets to a point when you feel that you're getting snowed under.

But there's one way to lighten that load. . . and that's by giving it to God.

We do our best, and God will do the rest.

My son's painful fall

Yesterday was Christmas day. My son had the misfortune of falling down, on his chin. The flesh on his chin split open, about 3 cm, revealing flesh and bone.

We panicked, and brought him to the hospital.

The flesh on my son's chin split open when he fell.

My wife panicked more than I did, she saw it first. The above photo was taken by her ...

Thank God, the jaw was not broken.

Thank God, there was a surgeon available at the hospital.

Thank God, my son seems to be recovering now, but everything takes time to heal ... we have follow up meetings scheduled with the doctor.

My son seemed quiet after the incident, but I know and feel that he's getting better.

Kaizen says Happy New Year

We recorded this on Christmas eve. You can see his usual naughty self. Hopefully he'll be back to his usual naughty self soon.

Happy new year to you!

Thanks for reading.

Here are some other writings from me.
