balls to the walls

This obscene sounding phrase actually means "full steam ahead". A quote from the Urban Dictionary website:

Origin: In aviation, the throttles (or power levers) are usually sticks with ball shaped ends. When a pilot wants full power, he moves the throttle forward towards the front wall of the cockpit. Thus, "balls to the walls" meant "full power".

it's hard to describe
that feeling you get
in a moment of need
you only fear regret
so you act to react
you act calm (though you're mad)
a swift double chop
and you're through like a jet
don't be blind like the bat
if you walk you get whacked
(or would you? -- confirm that)
do you really give a heck
for what's going on?
it's balls to the walls
just like earnest shackleton
stay alive for survival
and not one life lost --
'twas a feat not trivial
