getting fleeced by madam lim

Have you ever heard of Madam Lim's? If you ever go to Kelana Jaya, Giant Supermarket (right next to the LDP highway) -- try not to eat at Madam Lim's. This little place purports to cook Chinese food, but all the staff are not even Chinese! As a result, the food, which has Chinese names, winds up tasting a lot like Malay fare. Come to think of it, I've never seen any lady over there called Madam Lim. Picture shows kangkung sambal belacan: RM6.00.

And then there's the overpriced asam prawns. Six itsy bitsy sized prawns, and can you guess the price? RM15.00! That works out to RM2.50 per prawn. Really, did the petrol price hike affect these buggers so badly? They obviously forget that the petrol price hike also affects their clientele. RM15.00 for six small prawns. What a rip-off.

Moral of the story: Avoid. The older generation has always told us to avoid ordering seafood at food stalls, unless it's got a price tag on it, plain and clear to the naked eye. Those that can't be seen by the naked eye... perhaps, those price tags don't exist. The shopkeeper will tell you otherwise. He'll say that the price tags do exist. But you have to order the food first. Then, dear sir, you will have fallen into the same trap as a famous emperor once did. (He never did get to wash and iron his "new clothes".)
