Father's Day Weekend
Up this cheerful morning,
The sun shone on his face.
The night before, I worked
Alone, while he slumbered
In my wife's arms.
His smile makes everything
worth the while.
The future demands work
to guarantee it:
I scramble to find
My footing in this world.
Finances are shot through
Like a leak in a bucket.
I hope to give him
Everything, like what
I got from my dad.
The sun shone on his face.
The night before, I worked
Alone, while he slumbered
In my wife's arms.
His smile makes everything
worth the while.
The future demands work
to guarantee it:
I scramble to find
My footing in this world.
Finances are shot through
Like a leak in a bucket.
I hope to give him
Everything, like what
I got from my dad.
